Define your wedding overall feel and dessert/cake needs, looking at inspiration photos to get a sense of what you like. Your cake should be a reflection of you (or the two of you as a couple) and the overall vibe of your event. Try to settle on a few descriptive words for your event, like boho chic, or classic elegance, or refined rustic. This will help you communicate your style with your vendors!
Consider your guest count and what flavor preferences your guests may have. Will you be serving dinner, or desserts only? Will you have a dessert table or other desserts provided by your caterer? Do your guests typically eat cake, or will you be using the cake for cutting only? Also, it is wise to consider dietary restrictions or intolerances. Other things to think about include whether you will have a groom’s cake, the design of which is determined by the groom’s interests, or if you plan to freeze the top tier of your wedding cake for your first anniversary.
Schedule an in-person or email/phone consult with Laura to determine cake sizing, number of items needed, and cost. For a dessert table, we typically recommend 2-3 items per person. Cake serving sizes are approximately 1” x 2” x 5”. You can also use this handy guide for examples of cake sizes.
